Since Rob left his full time job and started Barrett Made, the company has operated out of the garage at the Barrett's home in Cape Elizabeth. Rob used the large garage space as a workshop and office, but with rapid growth, several new employees and the growing demand for a meeting spot for clients, Barrett Made is moving out and moving up. We leased a 1000 square foot office space on Portland's Union Wharf, formerly home to the Portland Pilots for 30+ years. The space needed a total overhaul but we could see the potential...especially with the amazing location and hard-to-find attached workshop space included. Walls came down, rooms were moved and the space was completely fit out with new flooring, fixtures and furniture. There wasn't exactly a ribbon cutting ceremony, as we started working out of the space as soon as we could- using lawn chairs to sit on and alternating between pricing jobs and installing trim. Now, the office is mostly complete, with a few details still left to come together. Leasing an office is a big risk for a new company and it felt like the first decision we made that wasn't totally out of necessity. But, as we continue to grow as a company that walk down the wharf every morning sure seems worth the risk.
